ABOUT COACHING

“…a powerful alliance designed to forward and enhance a life-long process of human learning, effectiveness and fulfilment.”
John Whitmore – ‘the grandfather of coaching’

Release the power of your potential through one-to-one developmental coaching. Coaching gives you the time and space out of your normal routine to reflect, plan and take action for change.

What happens during a coaching session?

During a typical coaching session, I will support you by helping you to clarify your objectives, and by challenging assumptions and behaviours which may be preventing you from achieving your objectives and realising your full potential. Each session takes the form of a ‘powerful conversation’ in which you choose the focus, while I listen, ask questions, and encourage you to move into action! The sessions are aimed at providing you with time and the kind of supportive environment in which to explore your current situation, discover more about yourself, and make the kinds of changes that will enable you to realise your goal. As your coach, I will not remain inert in this interaction, but the focus of the coaching is always the client, so the direction of the session will come from you and your priorities and objectives.

Coaching – what is it?

Coaching is a mainly short-term activity which consists of a number of one-to-one developmental conversations focused on specific areas or issues. Coaching works on the premise that you, the client are self-aware – or can achieve self-awareness – and positively want to make changes in your life. You are the expert of your life and work and possess all the creativity, intelligence, and resourcefulness to generate your own solutions and strategies. However, you may not be sure how to achieve your objectives right now. My role as your coach is to help you to remain focused on your own needs, values and aspirations, encourage you to set effective and challenging personal goals, and accompany you in finding ways of achieving those goals.

Examples of possible goals which might be achieved through coaching:

Deciding which career option to take next; launching myself into a new life; reducing the stress in my life; acquiring the interpersonal skills I need for a new role; achieving a better work-life balance; managing challenging conversations more effectively; enhancing relationships within my team; stepping up to leadership, establishing my professional credibility with more confidence…
